With gumdrop windows, candy cane roofs, and frosting everywhere, the Western Foodies exec team celebrated the end of the year by decorating gingerbread houses.
Using Zoom, the team had a friendly competition to test their decorating skills while listening to Christmas jingles and catching up on the chaos that was 2020 over a call. Feast your eyes on these amazing gingerbread creations below (more pictures can be found on our IG)!
To celebrate the end of the year and working as a team, we all bonded over Justin Beiber's "Mistletoe" while (eating our decorations) decorating our kits and hoping they were structurally sound.
The call was a success; Wendy pulled on our heartstrings by attributing her house to the club (top right), Raluca and Ashley showed their creativity with a makeshift roof, and Wasan went ham with the sprinkles among other things. We also faced some tumbles, with my reindeer refusing to stay up and Shiyao's house collapsing, but we all pulled through nonetheless. By the end of the night, we had 8 decorated gingerbread and our hands were covered in more frosting than probably on our houses.
Afterward, we were able to have you all cast your votes. Voting via an Instagram story vote, our Director of Internal Events, Elaine, won the small competition, earning bragging rights for her beautifully decorated and colourful house (first photo). For anyone wondering where to buy one, she got it from Costco!
Besides gingerbread house decorating, we also played a round of Kahoot. Sharing many laughs and enjoying each others' company made our last meeting of 2020 extra sweet!
As a first-year who joined Western Foodies for the first time, I am so glad to be a part of such a supportive team and being able to organize awesome activities centred around food! Can't wait to see what 2021 has in store for us, and excited to share with all you foodies, too!
Stay safe and healthy everyone, and make sure to feast big.
